singer and songwriter kuku was born to nigerian immigrant parents in miami, florida, but returned to lagos, nigeria at 2 years old where he was nourished on traditional yoruba classics such as apala, fuji, juju, and waka music, along with his parent's extensive imported vinyl collections of american soul music, reggae, country & western and other world sounds.
he later returned to the united states to further his education, and joined the us army in order to finance tuition costs. the purchase of $99 acoustic guitar in 2002 began his musical journey...
kuku's latest release, "soldier of peace", bridges the gap between his african roots and the western world with an effortless blend of yoruba, english and pidgin english lyricism, percussive guitar progression, infectious udu drum rhythms, topped with the south african township guitar inflections of co-producer mongezi ntaka (lucky dube, vusi mahlasela, lorraine klaasen).
kuku spent last summer in paris where he performed with keziah jones, ben l'oncle soul and other french based artists.
